In the Wake of Hurricane Ike: A Houston Real Estate Market Outlook
The Houston housing market has traveled an interesting road in 2008, to say the least. While sales have been down for 12 straight months compared to record-setting performances in 2006 and 2007, we've managed to steer clear of the real estate ills plaguing other parts of the country primarily because our market never experienced a pricing bubble.

Houston Area Housing Market Contracts Further in August
Sales of single-family homes priced below $80K continue to excel while other segments slow

Property sales across the greater Houston area suffered the biggest year-to-year decline ever in August, according to statistics released by the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR). August, which marked the twelfth consecutive monthly drop, saw sales of single-family homes slide 20.1 percent on a year- over-year basis.

TREC Passes Emergency Rules
The Texas Real Estate Commission passed emergency rules granting an additional four months to complete the license renewal or application process for licensees and existing applicants who reside or maintain offices in the 29 counties declared disaster areas due to Hurricane Ike and who have either begun the application process or have a license expiring during the period of September 30, 2008 and February 28, 2009.

What's the Real Days on Market?
To generate renewed interest in a listing that has been on the market a while, sellers will sometimes ask their agent to re-enter the listing in MLS so it will appear as a new listing, reset the Days on Market calculation and receive a new MLS number.

HAR will be introducing 713-REALTOR Property Hotline, a new and exciting service, to its members. REALTORS® will be able to add a sign rider clip to their yard signs which reads "To Hear Listing Info, Call: 713-REALTOR…" with a blank to write in the MLS number for that listing.

City of Houston: Good Neighbor Next Door Program Now $37,500
