90 Years and Still Going Strong…

I never thought someone would call me a Nonagenarian—at least not to my face.  When I looked it up in the dictionary though, I found out that it means someone between 90 and 99 years of age.  In this instance, I think it refers to something, rather than someone though.  HAR enters its 90th year of existence this month.  Founded on April 15, 1918, HAR has been proudly serving its members ever since.

March 4th was a true nail-biting primary for many of the races that HAR weighed in on. Despite some spending hours at their precinct convention, the results slowly came in. Voters agreed with 81% of HAR’s candidate recommendations. We are proud to have stood by the candidates who demonstrated their support for the real estate industry. We look forward to working with them and their campaigns in the November 4 General Election.

Fair Housing in the 2008 Real Estate Office
On April 11, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which was meant as a follow-up to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Fair Housing Act (the Act) prohibits discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and familial status in most housing related transactions. Further, the Act makes it unlawful to indicate any preference or limitation on these bases when advertising the sale or rental of a dwelling. The Act also prohibits harassment of anyone exercising a fair housing right and retaliation against an individual because she or he has assisted or participated in any manner, in a fair housing investigation.

Fine-Tuning Your Team for the New Market: Revisiting From Good to Great
Our industry is currently experiencing what may go down in history as one of its most dramatic moments.  Because the circumstances that characterize this drama are not appearing evenly across the national market, it has yet to reach the point at which it can be discussed in polite company.  Wise and learned men and women are still debating what it is and what it means.  It has become sort of like a "Katrina syndrome,” where experts argued for years about whether it was wind damage or water damage all the time ignoring the human reality of the storm. For some brokers, the current situation is a blinding reality while for others it is merely an item of interest to be referenced like the weather or the latest sports scores.
