There are lots of real estate shows on television these days, but almost all of them are focused on the home buyer or seller, rather than the Realtor®. Cable network Bravo decided to do a new show more from the Realtor’s perspective. The result: “Million Dollar Listing.”
Now while there may not be as many “million dollar listings” in our market as there are in California, where the reality show is set, the principles are largely the same whether you are selling a $100,000 house or a $10 million estate.
The great thing about the show though is that it illustrates how hard the Realtors work to earn every penny of their commission-and to negotiate the best transaction for their clients. The show also educates the public about industry terms and gives a more behind the scenes look at real estate.
As Bravo describes it: “Million Dollar Listing” follows the trials and tribulations of two real estate companies, one in Hollywood and one in Malibu, and exposes the intense work and competition that it takes to move the hot listing of the week. Each episode showcases a real estate listing from Hollywood and a listing from Malibu, starts from the beginning of the selling process and moves toward the coveted close. iewers see the ups and downs as a dozen of California’s biggest and best homes as they go up for sale. The storylines range from a hysterical divorcee forced to sell her multi-million dollar home, to an agent whose personal ties to the seller (her ex-fiance) get in the way of a potential sale. Each and every dramatic moment unfolds during these testing, high dollar negotiations.
For all of the work that Realtors put in for their clients, it is good to finally have a show that, while not necessarily real world, is at least more representative of the effort committed by Realtors on behalf of their clients. “Million Dollar Listing” airs on Bravo (Time Warner Channel 69) on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
